Monosof and Dermalon sutures with reverse cutting needles feature tri-coined, reverse cutting edges designed for use in dense connective tissue and skin. The cutting edge is positioned on the convex surface of the needle arc, which facilitates needle passage and minimizes tissue cut-through. These premium reverse cutting needles are made exclusively from Surgalloy material for enhanced strength and ductility.
Monosof and Dermalon sutures are monofilament nylon, non-absorbable, sterile surgical sutures. Monosof sutures are available dyed black with Logwood extract or undyed, while Dermalon sutures are dyed blue for better visibility. These sutures are used for general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.
DERMALON and MONOSOF sutures are indicated for general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.
Due to the gradual loss of tensile strength over time, nylon sutures should not be used where permanent tensile strength is required.
Both DERMALON and MONOSOF sutures elicit a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissue, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue.
Though not absorbed, nylon sutures may lose tensile strength over time due to progressive hydrolysis in vivo.
DERMALON and MONOSOF sutures are sterilized by ethylene oxide or gamma irradiation.
DERMALON sutures are available in blue, with sizes ranging from 2-0 (3 Metric) to 60 (0.7 Metric). MONOSOF sutures are available in clear (undyed) or black (dyed with Logwood extract) in sizes from 2 (5 Metric) to 110 (0.1 Metric). Both types are supplied sterile, with pre-cut lengths affixed to needles using permanent needle attachment techniques.
